Barton defeats Yankees; St. C. wins, Maynard loses
Barton continued to prepare for the upcoming LaRoche Tree Service Ohio Valley Baseball League playoffs as it defeated the Wheeling Yankees 9-5, Wednesday night at Henning Field in Crescent. The Braves (12-4) will host Weirton tonight at 6 p.m. in a makeup game at Henning Field. Matt King and Mike Coss each provided two singles and an RBI for the winners, who also received a double and RBI from Charlie Bishop. Tom Pasco also smacked a two-bagger while George Laase and Vinnie Kirkpatrick stroked a pair of singles each. Veteran southpaw Joel Atkinson hurled six innings of three-strikeout ball. He didn’t yield a walk before giving way the Laase in the seventh. Wheeling (4-12) received strong offensive efforts from Greg Bamberger, who had a double and two RBIs, as well as Rob Smith, who added three singles in the loss. West Liberty 4, Maynard 3 Homestanding West Liberty used eleven team hits and a stellar mound performance by Matt Coe to hold off Maynard.
