Moundsville CC playing host to W.Va. senior event Monday
One of the area’s finest courses and clubs will be on display Monday when the Moundsville Country Club hosts the West Virginia Senior Series. It’s the ninth event of the series, which still has dates in Parkersburg (Sept. 29) and Riverside Golf Club (Oct. 9). Former Bridgeport High standout Brian Schambach was one of the driving forces for bringing the event to Marshall County as a member of West Virginia Golf Association Executive Committee. The stop in Moundsville isn’t the first trip to the Ohio Valley in recent years. Courses at Oglebay have played host to several championships over the course of the years. Included in that are the OVAC and West Virginia prep championships. The Jones Course at Oglebay will host the 2009 West Virginia Open, which was previously held in Moundsville in 1995. The senior series — which will play Monday — is for golfers age 50 and over. They are broken into three groups 50-59; 60-69 and 70 and over.
