Athletic programs thriving
SHADYSIDE’S?JOHNNY?Merryman has his hand raised in victory after capturing the 152-pound title by defeating Oak Glen’s Cody Miller by a score of 3-1 in the 2008 Ron Mauck OVAC?Wrestling Tournament.
It was another high-achieving 2007-08 sports season for the Shadyside Tigers.
Coach Ty Fleming’s football team compiled a 9-1 regular season record enroute to qualifying for the postseason playoffs.
The Orange upended Steubenville Central 44-28 in round one of the Division VI, Region 23 playoffs, then knocked off another OVAC rival, River’s Pilots by a 27-12 count.
Shadyside, which advanced to the D-VI state title game in 2006, returned to New Philadelphia’s Woody Hayes Stadium last November for a Region 23 title matchup against Newark Catholic.
However, this year it wasn’t meant to be.
Shadyside took its fans on yet another ride to remember.
